Since West Ham's boxing day fixture at Arsenal was postponed I decided to go and watch Gillingham vs Barnet. Here's my match report.
Gillingham started brightly, creating numerous chances. Barnet then worked their way back into the match and scored a goal which turned out to be the winner; a fantastic finish by Hyde in the 19th minute gave Gillingham goalkeeper Stuart Nelson no chance. Barnet dominated the rest of the first half and deserved their 1-0 lead at half time.
Gillingham came out fighting in the second half but Barnet quickly took control. The Bees did not look like a team who are fighting to stay in The Football League. They dominated the second half until the 75th minute when Gillingham started to pile on the pressure with The Rainham End roaring them on. A packed Priestfield Stadium saw The Gills come close numerous times; Barnet goalkeeper, Graham Stack made some amazing saves which helped Barnet survive the constant threat of an equaliser.
Barnet held out for a well deserved 1-0 victory. The 100 fans that made the journey down from London to Kent will go home happy on a day that they saw their team earn 3 vital points.
My Man Of The Match: Graham Stack (Barnet goalkeeper) - Graham Stack had a fantastic game, pulling out some amazing saves to keep a well deserved clean sheet. If it wasn't for him, Barnet wouldn't of returned to London with 3 points.
